Garbage truck catches fire in Marion
MARION — Numerous intersections on Front Street in Marion were backed up with traffic on the afternoon of Thursday, July 18 as firefighters put out a fire that started on a garbage truck.
The fire caused a portion of Front Street to be closed in both directions for over an hour.
Marion police officers and harbormaster staff stood on Front Street directing vehicles to alternate routes.
An aerial image of the scene showed multiple firefighters from Marion and Wareham spraying the truck with water.
Marion Fire Chief Brian Jackvony could not be reached immediately for comment. According to Marion Fire Department dispatch, no information can be released at this time. The Wareham Fire Department directed questions to Marion.
It is unclear how the fire started or if anyone was injured.
By approximately 4:25 p.m., the truck had been moved and the blocked portion of Front Street was reopened.
