Mark your calendar for An Evening on Sippican Harbor on August 19th, 4 to 7 p.m., hosted by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging.
This outdoor community gala event will help raise funds to complete phase one of the Cushing Community Park Project to develop a 1/8 mile, fully ADA compliant, asphalt walking path that will meander around the property in front of the building at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center and will include the installation of a 26’ x 36’ outdoor pavilion on the site. These improvements will optimize the use of the property and benefit older adults as well as younger generations in the Marion community for many years to come. Funds for the walking path have been raised, much of it coming through Community Preservation Act funds, and construction will begin this month. A leadership donation by the Friends of Marion COA helped realize that funding.
The next big step of this project, the pavilion, has an all-in fixed price of $150,000. The Friends of Marion COA are serious about their commitment and have made another generous leadership gift of $50,000 toward construction of the pavilion! The possibilities an outdoor pavilion will give to older adults in Marion is exciting to consider. The biggest challenge will be scheduling its use for programs, speakers, lunches and other outdoor special events.
Tickets to this affordable event ($40 each) are on sale now at Marion General Store, Kate’s Simple Eats and Mimis. This event will be a great summer waterfront event with live music, refreshments and community participation.
