Guided Tour: Lighting the Way Walking Trail
Lighting the Way: Historic Women of the SouthCoast launched a new walking trail in July. On Smithsonian #MuseumDay, September 22, you can walk the trail guided by Lighting the Way experts! The New Bedford Whaling Museum is offering two free tours on September 22: at 11 am and 2 pm. Lighting the Way experts will share stories about some of the inspiring women who shaped the city's history. Learn the stories of educators, philanthropists, abolitionists, crusaders for social justice, investors, confectioners, sister sailors, millworkers, and others as you walk through downtown New Bedford. Admission to the Whaling Museum exhibitions and galleries is free of charge on September 22 for those presenting a Smithsonian Museum Day ticket. Museum Day tickets are available online at www.smithsonianmag.com. Admission to “A Spectacle in Motion: The ORIGINAL” featuring the Grand Panorama of a Whaling Voyage ‘Round the World, at Kilburn Mill,127 West Rodney French Blvd in New Bedford is free of charge every day through October 8.
