ArtWeek SouthCoast events at the Marion Art Center
MARION — The Marion Art Center is once again participating in ArtWeek SouthCoast, a regional festival celebrating the arts in the area.
“The Attorney-in-Fact.” MAC Theater Playwrights Incubator presents “The Attorney-in-Fact,” an original play by Philip Ardell, directed by Tony Ferreira, with support from WatermelonAlligator Theater Company.
Performances are May 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 10, at 2:00 p.m. in the MAC Theater at 80 Pleasant St. Following each performance, there will be a talkback with the playwright, creative team and cast.
Tickets are $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.
Spin Into Spring.From 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9 bike experts will be on hand at the MAC for bike tune-ups, offering brake adjustments, chain lubrication and other minor services. They will also provide advice about repairs that should be addressed before hitting the road.
Free, but advance booking is suggested as the event fills up fast.
Improv Workshop. Garrett Olson and Jess Wilson will lead a beginner-friendly course, exploring games and exercises in awareness, voice, movement and the senses.
The class is held on Wednesday, May 13, 7:00-9:00pm in the MAC’s Anne Braitmayer Webb Theater. The cost for MAC Members is $25 and $30 for nonmembers.
Unplugged.Paul Del Nero on bass and Matt Richard on piano will perform two concerts Friday, May 15th. The musicians will mostly play acoustic songs, with one show at 7 and one at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for MAC members and $20 for nonmembers. Seats are limited and sell out quickly.
Poetry Reading and Tea.Poets Ann E. Wallace and Elizabeth Sylvia will hold a reading of their new collections Saturday, May 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Coffee, tea, and sweets will be provided.
The event is free, but registration is recommended.
Paint and Sip Workshop. Barbara Healy will lead a class teaching the basics of painting with acrylics Saturday, May 16 from 1-3 p.m. on the MAC lawn. Artists will also have the chance to taste spring wines. The class costs $40 for MAC members and $45 for nonmembers.
Attendees must be at least 21. All materials will be provided.
