Fire breaks out on Rochester’s Snipatuit Road

ROCHESTER — A fire broke out at a 30x50 sheet metal hanger on Snipatuit Road on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 20 and was contained with no injuries a few hours later.
Rochester Fire and Police Departments responded to the call reporting dark black smoke in the area at 4:44 p.m. Smoke from the fire was was visible from across the pond.
Rochester Fire Department sent two engines and a brush truck to contain the fire. Water was supplied from Snipatuit Pond, which abuts the property.
Because of the contents inside the hangar, crews remained on scene for a couple of hours making sure hot spots were extinguished. The owner of the building was out of town at the time of the fire.
