Five new covid cases reported in Mattapoisett schools in three days

Nov 10, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — Four new cases of covid have been reported in Mattapoisett schools over the last two days according to Old Rochester Regional School District press releases put out on Nov. 8, 9 and 10.

There are three cases at Center School, one case at Old Hammondtown School, and one case at the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School.

All four individuals who tested positive for the virus are self-isolating in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocols.

It is not clear whether students, faculty or staff tested positive for the virus.

Contact tracing is being conducted by the town’s Board of Health. Close contacts will be notified, followed by the Board of Health, be expected to quarantine and will be recommended for covid testing.

All schools will continue with their normal schedules on Thursday, Nov. 12 (schools are closed for Veterans Day on Nov. 11) at the recommendation of the Mattapoisett Board of Health.

Every school building in the district will continue to be cleaned every day after school and as needed.

There have now been 14 covid cases in the district since reopening schools on Sept. 16.

The district strongly encourages anyone feeling ill or symptoms of covid to stay home and get tested for the virus.

Mattapoisett was recently moved from yellow to green in the state’s covid data in the latest weekly report on Nov. 6. This is in part because the state changed its data metrics to be population-specific. The Nov. 7 state data reported 14 cases in the town.
