Keep growing at the library: events for adults
MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Free Public Library, located at 7 Barstow Street, will hold several adult programs in August.
Documentary. The documentary "In the Whale" will be shown at the library at 6 p.m. Aug. 7. The film tells the story of a Cape Cod fisherman who survived being swallowed by a whale. A question-and-answer session with director David Abel will follow. Registration is optional.
Novel talk. Author Jennifer Mason-Black will discuss her novel "Sometimes the Girl" at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. Registration is optional.
Craft workshop. An adult craft workshop will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 11, where participants can make a candle using a seashell, soy wax and essential oils. Supplies will be provided, and registration is required.
Gardening presentation. C.L. Fornari, host of "The Garden Lady" on WCAI and 89.7 GBH, will give a presentation titled "Success with Vegetables" at 2 p.m. Aug. 13. The talk will cover vegetable gardening techniques, including how to address common problems and manage fall and winter harvests.
Sewing club. The Sewing and Maker Club will hold a drop-in session from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 15. The Weaving Wednesdays group will hold a drop-in session from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19. More information on both groups is available on the library's website.
Plant swap. A plant swap will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22. Participants may bring healthy, pest-free plants to trade; plants should be easy to carry and properly potted, with plant types labeled if possible. No registration is required.
