Marion was designated as a high-risk community by the state on Nov. 12, after case rates quadrupled in the past two weeks. 

According to a press release from the town, 43 new cases were discovered in the past two weeks.

Current population-based metrics place the threshold for becoming a high-risk town at 25 cases for Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester. 

Some cases are attributed to community spread, though many originated from Sippican Healthcare Center, which has seen dozens of cases crop up in the past two weeks. 

Elsewhere in the Tri-Town, Mattapoisett has seen an increase in cases in the last week, jumping from 14 to 25 active cases, according to state data. 

Rochester saw no change in reported cases in the past two weeks, with under five cases reported in state data in both the Nov. 6 and Nov. 12 covid dashboard updates.

The town of Marion gave holiday safety advice with tips like hosting outdoor gatherings, keeping six feet of social distance and avoiding travel in the release. 

"Given the recent rise in cases in our area and across the state, wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings and practicing proper hygiene are important measures for everyone to follow,” Marion Public Health Nurse Lori Desmarais said in the release. “And we encourage everyone to remain committed to following these measures, especially as we approach the holiday season.”
