MARION — A home on Point Road was destroyed in a two alarm fire on Jan. 16 that took firefighters six hours to extinguish. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. 

First calls about the fire at 498B Point Road came in at 3:34 p.m. Point Road was blocked off as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. The Marion Fire Department called for mutual aid from Mattapoisett and Wareham Fire Departments.

The Marion Police, Massachusetts State Police fire investigation unit and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services State Rehabilitation team also provided assistance. 

No one was in the house, which is owned by Alison Oneil. But a first responder was injured in responding to the fire, transported to the hospital, treated and released. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and cleared the scene at 9:28 p.m. 

The fire investigation team was unable to determine the cause of the fire on Wednesday, or when they returned to the scene on Friday. Fire Chief Brian Jackvony confirmed on Jan. 22 that private investigators from the insurance company were also unable to determine the cause of the fire, which was listed as undetermined. 

On Jan. 17, the Town of Marion Building Department deemed the property unsafe, and ordered it demolished. 

The owners could not be reached for comment on the property.
