Mattapoisett Free Public Library to hold more summer events
MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Free Public Library has announced several events for children during the months of July and August.
On Saturday, July 20 the library will host a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing featuring crafts, games with prizes, and snacks. The celebration will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Representatives from the library have asked participants to allow additional time for parking since the town will be hosting the Harbor Days festival at that time.
On Friday, July 26 at 1 p.m. Benares Angeley from the Art Lab will help children ages 4 to 10 create their own space banners. Registration is required to attend this event.
On Wednesday, July 31 the library will celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday at 2 p.m. There will be a “Horcrux Hunt,” table-top quidditch game, sorting-hat themed cupcakes, and an opportunity to make magic wands and “snitches.” Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. All ages are welcome, and registration is not required.
For those who participated in the summer reading program, a celebratory concert performed by Roger Tinknell will be held on Friday, August 2 at 10:30 a.m. After the concert ice cream and popsicles will be served as refreshments.
Turtle Week will be from Aug. 13 to Aug. 17 and will feature a special presentation from the New England Coastal Wildlife Association on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m.
All programs at the library are free and open to the public.
