Mattapoisett Woman’s Club hosts ‘Ringing of the Bells’

Nov 18, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Woman’s Club hosted the “Ringing of the Bells” at Center School and the Congregational Church at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, Veterans Day, allowing for a moment of quiet contemplation for those in attendance.

After the bells rang out, veteran Michael Voss read the enlistment oath that all military recruits take as they swear to serve the country.

“It was an emotional moment for all attending to hear just what our young troops, as did our veterans, promise and commit to do. The love of and gratitude to our Veterans were alive and well on Church Street on Veterans Day” club member Karen Gardner said.

The club hopes to hold the ceremony every Veterans Day in the future.

Over 20 churches in the south coast participated in the Mattapoisett Woman’s club project for Veterans Day.
