Music from Land’s End returns to Marion
MARION — After a one-year hiatus, Music from Land’s End was back in Marion on Saturday, July 24 for a pair of classical music performances featuring quartet pieces by Mozart and Brahms.
“It’s wonderful [being back],” said Ariadne Daskalakis who directed and played violin in the concert. “It’s very moving.”
The show marked the 9th year of the Music from Lands End festival which started in 2012 and features concerts in New Bedford, Wareham and Marion.
Daskalakis has spent her summers in Wareham since her childhood growing up in Boston. Though she now lives in Germany — where she is a professor and artistic vice-president at the Cologne Conservatory — she said she still summers in Wareham nearly every year.
“My love for this area inspired me to make a festival here,” she said, adding that the concerts have “a wonderful, supportive following, especially here in Marion and Wareham.”
The concert format was changed slightly this year in order to make the audience comfortable despite the ongoing pandemic.
The shows were split into double-header performances lasting just under an hour each, rather than a single concert with an intermission as they’ve done in past years.
Also performing in the concert were Diane Walsh playing piano, Sebastian Gottschick on the viola, and Paige Riggs on the cello.
Daskalakis called it “a real treat” to play with such talented musicians and added that even though Brahms Piano Quartet is a very complex piece, it came together quickly and beautifully in the hands of the master players.
She praised Walsh’s piano playing in particular for its balance in the quartet, noting that a piano can often drown out the rest of a quartet if it is played too forcefully.
The quartet will play two more shows tomorrow, July 25 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Wareham at 3 and 5 p.m.
A second session of concerts will be held on Aug. 13 - 15 with two more shows at each location.
The concerts are by donation at the door and reservations are available by emailing email@example.com or calling 508-999-6276 ext. 222.
