Summer lighthouse tours scheduled for Ned’s Point

MATTAPOISETT — The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 63 will offer tours of Ned’s Point lighthouse this summer from June to October, with two special tours in November and December. They are also planning a special Fourth-of-July-themed event on July 5. 

The posted schedule is subject to the availability of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Personnel and weather conditions and may change without advance notice.

The Flotilla currently plans to offer June tours of the lighthouse on Tuesday June 11, 18 and 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. and on on Friday June 7, Thursday June 13, Friday June 21 and Thursday June 27  from 4 to 7 p.m.

In July, the group will offer tours every Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 5 from 4 to 7 p.m.,on Saturday July 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on July 11, 19 and 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. 

For August, the group hopes to continue the Tuesday tours from 3 to 7 p.m. and offer additional tours on Friday Aug. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on the 8, 16, 22 and 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. 

In September the flotilla will continue the Tuesday tours, but reduce the hours from 3 to 6 p.m. On Thursday the 5 and Saturday the 7 they will offer tours from 4 to 8 p.m. and 10 to 2 a.m., respectively. For the rest of the month they will offer tours from 4 to 7 p.m. on the 13, 19 and 27 of September. 

For the last month of regular tours the flotilla will offer Tuesday tours on Oct. 1 and 8 from 3 to 6 p.m., and on Oct.4 from 4 to 6 p.m., Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m., and Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

The special holiday tours will be held Nov. 1 from 3 to 7 p.m., and Dec. 21 from 2 to 5 p.m.  

Children must be 48” tall to climb the 32 rough cut granite steps and seven foot ladder to enter the lamp room.
