Old Rochester alumni association provides scholarships, grants benefiting student

MATTAPOISETT — The ORR Bulldog Pride Alumni Association awarded $6,500 to students and school initiatives this year, celebrating student leadership and strengthening the Old Rochester community. 

The association selected Nina Pierre, of Mattapoisett, and Delilah Post, of Marion, for the Bulldog Pride Award. Both recent graduates will relieve $1,500.

 Pierre was the executive president of the school’s Student Council and championed mental health initiatives during her time there. Post, a three-sport team captain, fostered inclusion and belonging through her contributions to the Ambassadors Club and volunteer work at the local food pantry. 

A first-generation college bound senior received the Bulldog First Award, receiving $500 each year of college for a total of $2,000. Olivia Kinney, of Rochester, was chosen as this year’s recipient, and plans to study diagnostic medical sonography at Quinnipiac University this fall. 

Along with scholarships, the group awarded the first cycle of its new grants program, which provides one-time or two-year funding for projects benefiting student groups. 

This year, $1,800 was awarded for improvements to the disc golf course, a rehearsal clinic for the junior high band, the purchase of adapted physical education equipment and funding for the drama club’s new light board.
