ORR to offer course on managing children’s behavior

Jan 23, 2019

Positive Solutions for Families is an evidence-based program that provides information for families on how to promote children’s social and emotional skills, and use positive strategies to help children learn and manage appropriate behavior. The class will be held twice, and take place over four sessions.

The first session, Making a Connection!, will focus on how to  build relationships, make quality time, use positive comments, play with your child, support friendship skills and otherwise encourage positive behavior.

A second session, called Why do they do what they do?, will focus on the meanings behind children’s behavior and how to make expectations clear and teach household rules.

Next, Teach Me What to Do! will show parents how to develop emotional vocabulary, manage their child’s anger and disappointment and teach problem solving.

Finally, in Facing the Challenge! parents will learn strategies to promote positive behavior, identify problem behaviors and what they mean, learn prevention strategies and teach new skills.

Interested parents can choose to attend the first or second  session of classes. The first session will take place on Feb. 7 and 14, and March 14 and 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The second session will take place at the same time on April 4, 11, 25 and end on May 2.

Classes will be held in the Old Rochester Regional Library High School Library. Child care is available during the classes on request. To register for Positive Solutions for Families, please contact Robin Mobley at 508-748-1863 or email robinmobley@oldrochester.org.
