See “Pollock” at the library

As part of the “One Book, Tri-Town” series around  the novel "The Muralist" by B. A. Shapiro, the public libraries of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester are screening "Pollock" at the Mattapoisett Library on Wednesday, March 20 at 6 p.m.
 
The film stars Ed Harris as Jackson Pollock and Marcia Gay Harden as his wife and fellow artist, Lee Krasner. It opens at the end of the 1940s, with the abstract expressionist living a rough life in lower Manhattan, exhibiting only occasionally. He meets Lee Krasner, who sees his talent and comes to oversee his life and career, working to keep him sober and focused on his work.

He does experience success and fame, as well as a sad and ugly return to his old ways. Rated R, the film ends as abruptly as his life.

The film depicts of the art scene of the period, its patrons and party-goers. Other well known artists are woven throughout.
