Sippican Lands Trust moves April events online — and outside

Apr 11, 2020

MARION —  Though the novel coronavirus pandemic has put a hold on in-person group activities for the Sippican Lands Trust, it has modified some of its programs to hold them online, or allow families to do them on their own.

Lands trust board members will host a virtual conversation to learn what Marion residents would like out of the lands trust during this unusual time on April 14 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Those interested in joining the conversation should register at https://us04web.zoom.us/meeting/register/u5cvdO6rrD0jnC3BLIlSxg2eMyYuPpV3vA

Board member Diane Cook will host a storytime with Rosemary Grey, the children’s librarian at the Elizabeth Taber Library on April 15 at 10 a.m., also over Zoom. Parents and children can visit https://sippicanlandstrust.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0658bf81d6170260ecd57ca28&id=a341ae2e25&e=d9fc23171e to sign up.

The following weeks will feature two bookclubs. On Tuesday, April 21 the lands trust will host a virtual bookclub on “The Nature Fix” by Florence Williams. Participants should register at https://sippicanlandstrust.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0658bf81d6170260ecd57ca28&id=c52b44a5f2&e=d9fc23171e and be on Zoom at 7 p.m. to participate.

On April 28 the lands trust will host a virtual meeting on “The Overstory” by Richard Powers at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Interested participants should register at https://sippicanlandstrust.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0658bf81d6170260ecd57ca28&id=08a91e19f9&e=d9fc23171e.

The Sippican Lands Trust is also working with the Marion Garden Group to share Victory Garden seeds. Those interested in having seeds delivered to their house should sign up at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1vhSkelo0ZGSlTAwCOXWl0l0Wmu47BIFl5msOQX7R7ZU/viewform?ts=5e909001&edit_requested=true

For families, lands trust members are holding a champion tree challenge, where Marion residents look for the largest tree in their yard, or on a lands trust property. A brochure with instructions for how to identify, measure and record trees can be found at https://sippicanlandstrust.org/wp-content/uploads/Championship-Tree-Brochure.pdf

The lands trust is also holding a StoryWalk at Hagemann Woods this month featuring Marion author and artist Peter Stone.
