ROCHESTER — The dead, the undead, and everyone in between are invited to the Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School performance of The Addams Family Musical.

According to drama advisor Missy Sorrenti, the musical is based on the popular tv show “The Addams Family” but follows the love life of Wednesday Addams, the daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams. 

Being her first year as drama advisor, Sorrenti said that she allowed her students to take the reins on the project.

“I have a group of super awesome dedicated kids,” she said. “The kids here are so involved they kind of take the lead on things.”

Drama Club President and Fairhaven resident Megan Correia, 18, said that she had to audition for the role of Morticia because “she just looked like so much fun.” 

Correia said that despite her bubbly personality she was drawn to the darkness of Morticia Addams. 

“Trying to be someone who’s dark and miserable can be so hard,” Correia said. “They always say to me ‘Megan, you can’t smile’, and I’m fighting it, trying to keep a straight face.”

Her partner in crime, Gomez Addams is played by Rochester resident Cameron Makcuh, 15 felt the opposite when it came to his personality meshing with the role. 

“Seeing how Gomez is bombastic and popular, and seeing how I am quite popular, bombastic and handsome, there really doesn’t need to be a switch [in personalities],” said Makcuh. 

Bea Ashley, 16, of Mattapoisett plays the pair's daughter and star of the show, Wednesday Addams. The gothic character is known for her black braids and emotionless demeanor.

“I'm not very deadpan naturally but I can be when I want to be,” said Ashley. In addition to playing the lead role, Ashley who has a background in dance also choreographed the show. 

“My favorite scene has to be the tango,” she said. Towards the end of the play, Morticia and Gomez perform a dramatic tango dance. 

“It’s just been really cool to put together and see what they can do, because they are two people who have never really danced before,” said Ashley. 

Show dates for the play are Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Jan 29 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $10 for adults and $5 for students and kids at the door.
