South Coast Children’s Chorus concert will celebrate culture

Dec 1, 2022

A Winter Celebration of Culture Concert will be presented by the South Coast Children’s Chorus at two locations in early December.

This special concert is a collaboration between the South Coast Children’s Chorus, Tabor Academy, and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Choral Departments.

The program includes songs in various languages including Spanish, Hebrew, Swahili and the African Kituba dialect.

Interspersed throughout the concert are reflections on the themes of togetherness, unity, and a celebration of traditions associated with the winter season. Through the voices of over 80 young singers, this concert highlights that although we are from many cultures, we can come together and celebrate as one community through song.

“We are One” will be performed in two different locations. Both concerts are open to the public and free of charge.

The first concert is Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Tabor Academy Wickenden Chapel at 86 Spring Street in Marion. The next concert is on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at the New Bedford First Unitarian Church at 71 Eighth Street in New Bedford.

The mission of the South Coast Children's Chorus is to provide a joyful, educational choral experience for young singers, helping them to develop responsibility, confidence, musicianship, and a passion for excellence in all they do.

The SCCC core values are Service, Culture, Confidence & Community. Under the direction of Dr. Tianxu Zhou, SCCC performs throughout the South Coast including at AHA!, the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center most recently with the Young at Heart Chorus, The Children’s Advocacy Network Gala, Big Sing! Central, Fenway Park and with the internationally renowned African Children’s Choir.

Thanks to the support of local cultural councils, the South Coast Community Foundation and generous donors, tuition is free for all interested singers.
