Town of Marion Mural competition requirements
MARION — The Town of Marion is hosting a community mural contest for the newly upgraded Town House.
This initiative celebrates Marion’s maritime heritage, history and civic spirit through public art that reflects the town’s identity and pride.Marion invites artists to submit mural concepts for installation on an interior wall of the Town House.
Submissions should evoke the theme: “Celebrating Marion’s maritime heritage, history and civic spirit.” The mural will serve as a lasting symbol of community pride and creativity in the heart of Marion’s civic center.
The contest will open on Jan. 19 and the submission deadline is Apr. 2. The Select Board will review submissions in April and present possible options to the public in May. The community will be able to vote on the options. Final mural installation will take place in August.
The contest is open to Marion residents aged 18 and older. Individuals or teams are welcome to compete.
Each artist must submit one original design concept. Designs must be appropriate for all audiences and must not contain political, commercial, or offensive content.
Artists should submit a digital rendering and concept statement with discussion on theme via email to ggorman@marionma.gov. Submissions must be received by Apr. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
Selections will be made by the Select Board and select up to four final designs based on creativity, feasibility and alignment with the contest theme.
Finalist designs will be posted for public viewing, and Marion residents will be invited to participate in an online survey to determine the winning mural.
The mural will be installed as a durable and long-lasting vinyl application. All artwork will become the property of the Town of Marion upon installation, though the artist retains credit and may reproduce images for personal portfolio use.
