A trip to the movies through music

MARION — The Marion Concert Band will present "A Trip to the Movies That's Out of This World" on Friday, July 24, continuing its Friday evening concert series.

The program will feature soundtrack music from movies and television shows in the first half, followed by movie music with a space theme in the second half. Selections include music from "Ben-Hur," "Star Wars," "Star Trek," "Lost in Space," "E.T." and the James Bond film series, along with "Hooray for Hollywood," "Cinema Paradiso" and other film and television themes.

Euphonium soloist Toby Monte will perform a solo during "Cinema Paradiso."

Monte has performed with the Massachusetts All-State Band, the New Bedford Symphony Youth Orchestra, the UMass Dartmouth Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, the St. Cecilia Philharmonic Band, the Tri-County Symphonic Band and the Brown University Orchestra.

He has been a member of the Marion Concert Band since 2011.

The concert will be held at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand at Island Wharf, off Front Street in Marion. 

The band, under the direction of Tobias Monte, will begin at 7 p.m.
