Pep rally boosts ORR school spirit

Old Rochester Regional High School’s Student Council welcomed the student body back from February vacation with its second annual Winter Homecoming. The week-long celebration, from Feb. 23 to 28, served to liven up school spirit.

Like the fall Homecoming, every weekday was assigned a Spirit Day dress-up theme. The school was closed the first day of Homecoming due to roof concerns, so the days had to be condensed. Tuesday was Pajama Day, Wednesday was Decade Day, Thursday was Superhero Day and the week ended with Flannel Friday.

On Thursday, the school held a pep rally. Instead of fall Homecoming’s infamous class skits, Winter Homecoming was a competition of picnic games. A few students from each grade competed in nine events, including tug of war, an egg toss, musical chairs, a three-legged race, and a drawing contest. The mini competitions had classes up on their feet on the gym’s bleachers encouraging their classmates onto victory.

The sophomores came out on top after winning the most events and earned $100 for their class treasury. The juniors came in second and took home $75, and the seniors and freshmen tied for third place.
