Electrical outlet suspected cause of Rochester house fire
A house fire at 193 High St. was contained Wednesday afternoon with no injuries and no significant damage to the building’s structure.
Fire Chief Scott Weigel said the fire started around 4:45 p.m. in the home’s basement, and was likely caused by an electrical outlet. The fire was contained to the front of the home.
“The guys did a good job,” said Weigel.
He said the electricity was turned off, but that the occupants should be able to get back in their home by Thursday, pending inspection by an electrician.
The fire, which was called in by the homeowners was extinguished quickly, said Weigel.
“We’re very lucky the homeowners were at home,” he said.
The cost of the damage to the two-story home is an estimated $20,000 to $30,000.
Middleborough, Mattapoisett and Marion provided mutual aid.
