Arrest made in east Marion

Sep 20, 2011

On Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 10:13 a.m., the Marion Police Department responded to a call from a resident reporting his home had been broken into and the suspect had just left in a vehicle.  The home is located in the 300 block of Point Road, near Piney Point.

The homeowner had just returned home and found a strange vehicle in his driveway and noticed that a rear door to his house was open.  He then encountered the suspect, who left the area, in the vehicle and headed north on Point Road.  When Officer Larry Savery arrived, the homeowner was able to provide a description of the vehicle.

This information was relayed to Officer Sean McAssey, who observed the vehicle, travelling at a high rate of speed, north on Point Road.  As soon as Officer McAssey turned his cruiser around, the vehicle sped off and tried to hide by turning off, into a driveway.  A citizen observed the actions and flagged down Officer McAssey and pointed to the location of the vehicle.  Officer McAssey observed the operator running from the vehicle, into the woods.  After a brief foot chase, the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect is identified as Timothy Gregory, age 40, of 125 John Street in Fall River.  He has been charged with Breaking and Entering in the Daytime, Malicious Destruction of Property, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.  He was booked at the Marion Police Department and is being arraigned at the Wareham District Court.

Police credit the actions of the homeowner, with providing the suspect’s description and the unknown citizen for pointing out the suspect vehicle’s location.
