The aftermath

Aug 30, 2011

Still without power, phone or cable/internet/phone.  It looks like I stuck out with the Xfiniti triple play!  It was working 2 nights ago and stopped yesterday morning.  Thanks to my cell phone which I am using to create a "Hot Spot" to access the web.  It brings me back to the days of dial up as the speed is very slow.

Irene blew threw town over the weekend leaving trees and limbs all over the place.  Some knocking down wires and others landing on houses. All in all the damage was relatively minor as proven by the uptick in insurance company stocks this morning.  We pay exorbitantly high premiums for insurance because of the perceived catastrophic threat we face from hurricanes! Many are in FAIR plan and are paying a steep price for this privileged. It seems to me that we just took a big hit and survived with little damage.  So why are insurance companies afraid to provided services to us down here?  For every dollar FAIR Plane collects they pay less than $.25 in claims.  This would be the envy of any traditional insurance company!

There is a group, Citizens for Homeowners Insurance Reform, that is working to bring sanity to the situation.  You can check them out at http://homeownersinsurancereform.org/9-9-07.html.  If you have any interesting Irene stories i would love to hear them.

Until next time.
