Dance the Night Away October 26

Oct 15, 2024

On Saturday, October 26, the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra presents “Dance the Night Away” in the Bronspiegel Auditorium at New Bedford High School. Music Director Yaniv Dinur and the orchestra welcome dancers from the Newport Contemporary Ballet to join them for the final piece of the evening.

In this program, we dive into the power music has to make us want to move and express ourselves in motion. Each piece is inspired by dance and probably the best way to prepare for the concert is to watch Gene Kelly dancing in An American in Paris and watching the Sharks and the Jets dance it out in West Side Story. The extraordinary Newport Contemporary Ballet will glide across the stage and around the auditorium to Ravel’s musical love story, Daphnis et Chloé. The motion in the music and the dance will soothe and inspire you.

“Dance the Night Away” is sponsored by Vineyard Wind and will take place on Saturday, October 26, 7:30 PM in the Bronspiegel Auditorium, New Bedford High School, 230 Hathaway Boulevard, New Bedford. Arrive early for pre-concert fun! From 6:15 – 6:45 PM, students from New Bedford Ballet will perform in the lobby. From 6:30 – 7:00, conductor Yaniv Dinur will hold his pre-concert talk in the auditorium, welcoming Newport Contemporary Ballet Executive Artistic Director Danielle Genest at 6:45.

Tickets are $20, $40, and $65, with $10 student tickets (available at the box office only with student ID). Purchase tickets through the Z box office, 508-994-2900, or online at nbsymphony.org. Convenient and free parking is available in the lots near the entrance to the auditorium.

All are welcome to the free open rehearsal in the auditorium on Friday, October 25, 4 – 6:30 PM. Seating is general admission, and no tickets or RSVP are required. Please note that this is a working rehearsal, and pieces may not be played in their entirety. A 20-minute break usually occurs between 5 and 5:30. Come and go as you please!
