NBSO Announces Music Scholarship Recipients

Jun 10, 2020

The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winners of the 2020 Lillian B. Lamoureux Music Scholarship competition. Two $1,000 scholarships were awarded, one to a high school student and one to a college student.

This year’s high school recipient is Christina Eckenreiter, a cellist and graduating senior from Fairhaven High School. Next year, she plans to study animal science, focusing on infectious disease at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She also plans to continue performing on the cello for the university’s orchestra and chamber ensemble while also furthering her private musical instruction.

The 2020 college recipient is William Labossiere, a percussionist at Messiah University majoring in music performance. Following his degree, he plans to continue on to graduate school in his goal to teach at the college level. While he is an accomplished percussionist, he also plans on minoring in piano technology at the graduate level.

Due to the COIVD-19 pandemic, applicants submitted audition videos for the Scholarship Committee to review. The scholarship, awarded by the NBSO since 2000, is open to all South Coast music students ages 14-21 and may be used for private music lessons, tuition, or other expenses that further the students’ music education. The scholarship continues to recognize the legacy of former President Emerita and longtime board President Lillian B. Lamoureux.

The NBSO is a professional orchestra that annually presents a concert series of classical and pops music with internationally acclaimed guest artists, as well as an outstanding chamber music series. In addition, the NBSO’s innovative and nationally recognized educational programs reach 8,000 students each year. The NBSO is dedicated to building a community of music in the South Coast.
