Old Rochester Boys Soccer Ties Apponequet 1-1
Old Rochester boys soccer team hosted the Apponequet Lakers on Wednesday September 2nd in a battle of top teams in the South Coast Conference. The Bulldogs came into the game 3rd in the SCC and riding a 5 game winning streak while the Lakers in 2nd place were attempting to overthrow New Bedford Voc for the top spot in the conference. Right away you could see that the game was going to be a tough battle with some rough fouls early in the game.
The Bulldogs scored the first goal off a throw in from Michael Pruchnik that was flicked towards goal by Alden Truesdale and Jack Smith, sneaking right by the Laker Goalie. Throughout the rest of the first half and the whole second Old Rochester and Apponequet accumulated four yellow cards each; an unheard number of cards for a high school game. Late in the 2nd half Apponequet equalized after a shot from the top of the penalty box sneaked past the out stretched hands of sophomore keeper Melvin Vincent.
It was a good tie for the bulldogs, showing they could keep up with the top teams in the conference. The Bulldogs got great play out of sophomore sweeper Brett Noone, senior right back Chris Carando, and senior striker Jack Smith. The Bulldogs are now only 3 points away from clinching a playoff spot.
