The Gatemen faced a setback in their 2-1 loss to Cotuit at Spillane Field on Friday. They only hit the ball twice during the game and struggled to string together any offense.

They were able to quickly overcome this adversity with a 3-0 shutout win over the Falmouth Commodores on Saturday, winning the season series against them. The victory brought the Gatemen back to the brand of baseball they like to play: hard-nosed, gritty, and competitive baseball highlighted by dominant pitching and quality at-bats.

They now face another division rival in the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Hyannis has stumbled through the second half of the season, going 3-7 in its last ten games, with Saturday night ending in a 5-4 loss to Chatham in Hyannis.

The Harbor Hawks, who are only two points ahead of last-place Falmouth in the West, will need to string together some wins with only seven games remaining on the season. The Gatemen lead the season series over Hyannis 2-1, with a chance to win it on their home field as they host Hyannis for the first time since Opening Day.

Starting Pitchers

The Gatemen will start right-hander Logan Baisley (Florida Gulf Coast). Baisley has mainly been a starter for Wareham this season and once again will get the nod tonight. He started in four of eight appearances this season, in which he pitched 15 ⅓ innings with 21 hits, 15 earned runs, eight walks, and 15 strikeouts.

His last start against the Y-D Red Sox on July 21 started strong before the Red Sox offense turned up the heat. He pitched two and two-thirds innings with five hits, four earned runs, a walk, and a strikeout. He will need to be sharp tonight to lay a solid foundation for his teammates and hold a hungry Harbor Hawks lineup at bay.

Hyannis will counter with right-hander Eddie Copper (South Carolina). Copper has made two starts in nine appearances, where he threw 14 ⅔ innings with 19 hits, 15 runs (14 earned), nine walks, and 17 strikeouts.

In his last start against the Brewster Whitecaps on July 21, he pitched three and two-thirds innings with four hits, two earned runs, two walks, and four strikeouts. He will need to be sharp against one of the best lineups in the Cape Cod Baseball League, the Gatemen’s.

Players to Watch

For Wareham:

  • Colby Turner (Michigan) brings a veteran presence to this lineup. Being a Gatemen in 2024 and now an All-Star in 2025, he puts together great quality at-bats and capitalizes on opportunities to bring in runs, like he did Saturday, to put the Gatemen on the board.
  • Brayden Randle (Ole Miss) has been a solid leadoff man for the Gatemen this summer. According to Gatemen Field Manager Ryan Smyth, Randle is a “spark plug” that ignites the rest of the lineup. Randle once again had a good night at the plate on Saturday, going two-for-four with a run scored.

For Hyannis:

  • Ryan McKay (Michigan State) has been a reliable bat for the Harbor Hawks this season. The 2025 CCBL All-Star grabbed a hit in Saturday’s 5-4 loss to Chatham. He is batting .286 for the summer.
  • Gabe Camacho (UC San Diego) had a good night offensively on Saturday, going two-for-three with a walk and an RBI. He is batting .264 this summer.

First pitch for tonight’s game will be at 6:00 p.m. at Spillane Field in Wareham. You can attend the game for free, or you can tune in to the Gatemen’s broadcast on Cape League TV with Cory Miller, Josh Richardson, and Rayna Maggelet on the call by clicking HERE.
