Two school covid cases reported at high school, Rochester Memorial

Dec 19, 2020

There have now been 59 covid-19 cases in the Old Rochester Regional School District since opening on Sept. 16, as one person each from the high school and Rochester Memorial have come down with the virus.

The district said in Dec. 18 press releases that the positive cases have not been in their respective buildings since Dec. 11 and are at home self-isolating.

Officials did not specify whether the individuals are a student, faculty or staff members.

Contact tracing is in progress and any close contact, or those who were within six feet of the positive individuals for at least 10 minutes over a 24 hour period, will be notified and followed by the Rochester or Mattapoisett Board of Health. Close contacts are expected to quarantine and will be recommended for testing.

All schools will continue with their schedules as normal, and the district urges to keep children home if they or their parents feel sick or show symptoms of coronavirus.

Testing for the virus can be done either through a primary healthcare provider or at one of the testing sites located throughout the state.
