MATTAPOISETT — The town of Mattapoisett has officially approved a four-day extension to the timeline for completion of repairs to the Acushnet Road Bridge, meaning it is now set to reopen on Aug. 21.

The bridge has been closed since July 17 and was scheduled to be completed by Aug. 17. However, it was delayed as a result of inclement weather and testing that showed the presence of E. Coli in the water, according to Town Administrator Mike Lorenco.

The four-day extension is less than the initial request of one week that was addressed at an Aug. 10 Select Board meeting.

According to Lorenco, more discussions will take place later this week to see if additional time will be needed to complete the project.
