Alumni play students in Hall of Fame game
The Old Rochester Regional Athletic Hall of Fame held its second annual Alumni Hoops Classic Friday night, bringing together players from past and present in two lively games.
"It's a fun night of mixing old and young," said Dena Xifaras, who organized the games.
The ladies started off the night with a feisty game that ended with the alumni storming the court.
Bernadette Clark Bramin played for the second year in a row.
"I'm still just as tired," she said. "It's always fun to play with these ladies."
The alums fell behind early in the game and worked hard but couldn't catch up. The game ended 45-29 in favor of the students, with the alumni promising to meet up in advance of next year's meeting.
"We gotta practice a little more," joked Xifaras.
The boys hit the court next, and after last year's loss to the championship team, the alums were out to prove they could compete. It didn't hurt that varsity coach Steve Carvalho was on their team.
The game was close through all four quarters and with minutes to go, it was tied 60-60. The alumni pushed through, going on a 15-3 run and ending the game with a 75-63 victory.
Next up, the Hall of Fame will hold its annual induction ceremony this summer.
