And the award goes to...ORR rolls out red carpet for Senior Superlatives Gala

Feb 9, 2015

The quirkier characteristics of Old Rochester Regional High School’s senior class were celebrated Friday as Principall Mike Devoll rolled out the red carpet for the annual Senior Superlative Gala.

“We have a great senior class,” said Devoll. “We’re here tonight to find out just how great they are.”

Devoll and Drama Club Director Paul Sardinha hosted the event. The night kicked off with the “Most famous game in America,” Know Your School. Seniors Nicole Gifford, Ian MacLellan, Alec Merolla, Margaret O’Day and Brent Rezendes competed to answer trivia questions on ORR, including the number of students enrolled (787) and the cost of lunch in the cafeteria ($2.75.)

Gifford and MacLellan were tied at the end of the regulation questions. After two tiebreak questions, MacLellan came out on top.

The entertainment continued into intermission. Raffle prizes were given out and the ORR Dance Team performed a number.

But the main event was finding out the winners in the 22 senior superlative categories. A male and a female senior took home the title for every prize. The categories include Best All Around, Most Likely to Tell You How it is, Most Musically Inclined and Best Hair. After receiving their awards, students were given the option to say a few words to the audience.

Austin Salkind was the male who took home the first award of the night, Most Likely to Succeed.

After accepting the award, Salkind told his fellow seniors that, “There is no real way to measure success,” and that they will all thrive. Salkind also took home the Cutest Best Friends award with Gerald Lanagan.

The entire audience posed for two selfies taken by Chloe Riley and Dakota Jones, the winners of the Most Likely to Take a Selfie Award. Riley thanked her friends for not deleting her Snapchat.

Cutest Couple was the final award of the night. Brittney Santos and Devon Fernandes took home this award.

Santos joked in her speech, “I guess being with this dork for three years has paid off!”

Other winners included Matt Miller and Sierra Ennis for Best Dressed, Cory DeSousa and Nicole Gifford for Best Laugh, and Kyler Berry and Mya Lunn for Class Clown.
