Selectmen have approved a 10^th anniversary celebration for the Mattapoisett Skate Park. Scheduled for Aug. 23, the event will also be a fundraiser for the park, located behind the police station.

Kyle Lopes, an organizer for the event, presented the plan on Tuesday night, saying it would include skateboarding, food and music, pending an OK from the police chief.

“We’re hoping to do a live band,” said Lopes. “We’re hoping that would attract a more diverse crowd.”

Lopes said the music would be family friendly.

The event will begin around 2 p.m. and end by dusk. Aug. 30 is the rain date.
