Ansel’s Cafe gets liquor license

MARION — Marion will soon have another option for drinks at Ansel's Cafe after Selectmen granted the County Road business a liquor license.

The cafe’s owner Elizabeth Carter appeared before the Selectmen at a March 2 public hearing for the license, which will allow the brunch and lunch cafe to serve alcohol to its patrons.

“It was always sort of my intent to pursue a liquor license,” Carter said.

The cafe opened in June and is located at a house dating back to the 1700s.

The cafe is closed for the winter, but Carter said the license wouldn’t affect the business’ hours much, and that it would remain open mainly for brunch and lunch. Though she added that she’d thought about offering evening tapas on the weekends sometime in the future.

The Selectmen moved unanimously to allow Ansel’s Cafe a liquor license. Due to a limit on the number of businesses that can serve alcohol in town, the Selectmen have four more liquor licenses available to be awarded to businesses.
