Sep 10, 2019

MATTAPOISETT — An applicant requesting a town bylaw change to create a marijuana cultivation facility for recreational use has withdrawn their application, canceling the Special Town Meeting on Sept. 23.

The applicant, David McIntire, had attempted to pass his proposal at the annual Town Meeting in May, but failed, according to Planning Board Administrator Mary Crain. His proposal was scheduled to be discussed again at the Sept. 23 Special Town Meeting, before he decided to withdraw.

Crain said that the town allows for medical use of marijuana, but bylaws still prohibit recreational use in Mattapoisett.

Crain said that McIntire’s proposal was the only item scheduled for the Sept. 23 meeting, meaning that no other items will be affected by the cancellation.

The town will still hold a Town Meeting on Monday,Oct. 21 in the Old Rochester Regional High School auditorium at 6 p.m., as previously scheduled.
