April events for Marion Council on Aging

MARION — The Marion Council on Aging, 465 Mill St., has a series of events planned for April. Here is a sampling.

Vladimir Putin: Corrupt, Competent and Environmentalist, Coming Cold War? 1 p.m. Friday, April 8. Henry Quinlan will look at the career of Putin and an examination of the policies and actions that could lead to a new Cold War. 

Art for Your Mind: American Women Artists, 1 p.m. Monday, April 11. Art historian Jill Sanford will challenge participants to view art in a new way with a selection of work from women in the 18th through 21st century. A catered lunch will be served at noon, prior to the presentation. A suggested donation of $5 is requested. Reservations are required for the luncheon and lecture; call (508) 748-3570.

Trip to Old Colony: 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12. Complimentary manicures will be provided by the cosmetology students at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, followed by lunch at the Cougar’s Den, the student-operated restaurant. Participants cover the cost of lunch and tip. Reservations are required; call (508) 748-3570.

Bunny Hop around the Walking Path: 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 12. Dance to the 1950s craze, the Bunny Hop, or simply stroll around the walking path. Light refreshments will be served; prizes will be awarded. Call (508) 748-3570 to sign up.

Paint Party with Lidia, 1 p.m. Friday, April 22. Create art on canvas that can be taken home the same day. All materials will be provided. Cost is $20, due at sign-up. Reservations are required; call (508) 748-3570.

Fenway Park tour, 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28. The group will travel to Fenway Park and visit the Green Monster, press area and hall of fame. Dinner is at a local eatery. Cost is $22; lunch is an additional charge. Sign-ups begin April 14. Reservations are required; call (508) 748-3570.

Vintage Car Slideshow, 1 p.m. Friday, April 29. John of Orphan Car Garage will present a slideshow of vintage vehicles, from the Corvair to the Vega. Enjoy a root beer float while reminiscing. Reservations are required; call (508) 748-3570.

Brunch with the chief, 11 a.m. Monday, May 2. Ask questions and share concerns with Police Chief Richard Nighelli, who will discuss scams to be aware of. Reservations are required; call (508) 748-3570.
