Following a brief interview, Selectmen welcomed Marylou Armstrong to the Conservation Commission on Tuesday.

Selectman Chair Tyler Macallister, who previously served on the commission, told Armstrong, “One of the big things about being on the Conservation Commission is we try to be more of a proactive board than a reactive board.”

Armstrong has previous professional experience working with environmental issues in the early 1990s, and said she is familiar with inland wetlands.

“I always wanted to do something like this,” said Armstrong. “I finally have the time to invest in a board like this.”

Paul Osenkowski, a member of the Mattapoisett Land Trust spoke in favor of Armstrong.

“She not only follows the rules and regulations, but she also understands what the overall idea of the project is,” said Osenkowski. “I highly recommend her.”

Selectmen unanimously approved Armstrong’s appointment to the commission. She fills Ken Dawicki’s seat until the 2014 election.
