Artists show off work, make library part of a 'better world'

May 17, 2017

In the beginning of March, artists of all ages were invited to take a canvas from Mattapoisett Library home to decorate. On May 16, the library invited everyone back to see the artwork at an artist reception.

The canvases, which are for sale for $25 a piece, serve as a fundraiser for the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library. According to Library Director Susan Pizzolato, 135 canvases were taken out, and so far they have received over 80 back.

“We’re still waiting for the rest of them,” she said. “We’ll be displaying them through July.”

“Build a Better World” is this summer’s statewide library summer reading program theme, and artists were encouraged to interpret the theme however they wanted.

“It’s been a lot of fun for all of us, kids and adults,” Pizzolato said.
