Aspirants absent for three open Rochester elected offices

Apr 2, 2021

ROCHESTER — What if they held an election and no one ran? That’s not exactly the case in Rochester this year — but, with the the March 31 deadline to take out nomination papers in the rearview, one seat on the School Committee, one on the Cemetery Commission and the position of Moderator are left without any aspirants.

With two spots on the Rochester School Committee up for election on May 26, Robin Rounesville is seeking reelection. Tina Rood is not, and no one beyond Rounesville has taken out nomination papers for the board.

Similarly, Cemetery Commissioner Daniel Blizard and Moderator Kirby Gilore are not seeking reelection.

So what happens with those posts? Town Clerk Paul Dawson explained that all are open to write-in candidates.
