Auditions for ‘dangerous game of one-upmanship’ play set for January in Marion
Event Date:
MARION — The Marion Art Center has announced auditions for its productions of “Ripcord,” written by David Lindsay-Abaire and directed by John Heavey.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 from 12 to 3 p.m.
Show dates are March 7 through 23, 2025, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
“A sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, so when the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary,” a press release from the Marion Art Center said. “A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden.”
The director, Heavey, will be casting three women and three men for the following roles: Abby Binder (lead, 60s-70s), Marilyn Dunne (lead, 60s-70s), Scotty (supporting, 20-30s), Colleen (supporting, 30s-40s), Derek (supporting, 30s-40s), and Benjamin (supporting, 30s-40s).
The audition will consist of readings from various scenes from the script with others auditioning. A full cast description and more details can be found online at marionartcenter.org/auditions.
