Become a Buzzards Bay Baywatcher

Jun 12, 2014

The Buzzards Bay Coalition is looking for Baywatchers to monitor the local waterways across the Buzzards Bay region this summer.

The Coalition is looking for volunteers in the following areas:

· Rochester: Sippican River

· Marion: Wings Cove, Sippican Harbor and Blankinship Cove

· Mattapoisett: Mattapoisett River, Brandt Island Cove and Eel Pond

· Wareham: Onset Bay, Little Harbor, Wareham River, Broadmarsh River, Agawam River and Weweantic River

Baywatchers volunteer one morning per week from May to September at a designated monitoring site in their community. Using a water testing kit, Baywatchers collect samples and measure salinity, temperature, water clarity and dissolved oxygen at the site. Baywatchers receive training prior to volunteering and do not need a science background.

The data collected through the Baywatchers program form the foundation of the Coalition's efforts to restore and protect Buzzards Bay.
