MATTAPOISETT — Plans for a connection from the Mattapoisett Rail Trail Bike Path to Marion planned bike path were approved at a Dec. 14 Conservation Commission meeting. 

Though, construction will not be allowed to begin until certain environmental protection plans are in place. 

The bike path also needs to secure all its funding before construction on the 1.5 mile addition can begin. The town recently received a $208,000 grant for the path. 

The path will connect to Marion from the in-progress segment east of Mattapoisett Neck Road, and run adjacent to Industrial Drive until it connects with what is currently a railbed adjacent to I-195. From there, the path will reach Marion.
