Bike path project to roll on

Jun 23, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — Construction stopped on the bike path that will connect Mattapoisett to Marion during the peak of coronavirus. But the 1B phase of construction is now underway, and the town hopes to have the full path operational by late fall if all goes well.

Town Administrator Michael Lorenco updated Selectmen on town projects that are progressing at a June 22 meeting.

The groundbreaking for the new fire station is next week. The town is closing out items to start construction and is making sure it will go according to plan.

The Acushnet Road bridge construction project will now start in the late summer.

While under construction, the bridge will be impassable, and residents will be detoured into Fairhaven, or onto Wolf Island Road.

Lorenco said that the bridge will “hopefully be done quickly” before the start of the new school year.

With the Industrial Drive Revitalization Plan, the town is getting documents ready to start the bidding process in July. A truck turn-around was added to the plans so that vehicles could safely go in and out of the road.

For the landfill solar farm project, the design process has started for the layout, and the town is working with a consultant to file agreements with Eversource Solar.
