MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Library’s new “Silent Book Club” isn’t just for introverts — readers can bring their own book to the library’s upstairs reading room on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m. to “read together in quiet camaraderie,” according to the library.

The Mattapoisett Library’s first meeting of the “Silent Book Club” will also have a traditional afternoon tea provided by the Milward Tea Room and sponsored by the Purrington donors of the Mattapoisett Library Trust. There will be sweet and savory treats and tea.

The event will be limited to 20 readers due to space limitations. To sign up, call the library at 508-758-4171, or visit the library. Anyone age 16 and up can register.

At “Silent Book Club,” there's no assigned reading. Participants brings a book to read, and at the outset, chat about their choice and helps themselves to refreshments. Then the facilitator will announce that it's time to read for 30 minutes. After that time, readers may resume talking, or not, and then break until the next meeting. There is no obligation to attend every meeting.
