Brownie troop makes blankets over Zoom

Dec 18, 2020

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 67047 spent their last Friday night Zoom meeting of the year on Dec. 18 working on blanket that will be donated to help animals recovering from surgery.

The girls cut and wove together no-sew blankets that will be donated to Chase Farm Veterinary Clinic in Dartmouth to comfort recovering critters. Last year, the troop made bird houses for the clinic.

But this year is sentimental for the group, which is carrying on in memory of Nicole Rickard.

Richard was the troop’s Girl Scout sister, co-leader, mom, friend, and former vet at Chase Farm who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.

When the troop asked Nicolea’s daughter, Shanley, if her mom liked cats or dogs more, Shanley said “she could never decide, so she always said unicorns were her favorite.”

Ms. Alda, one of the troops co-leaders, delivered fabric to each girls home. Girls from Wareham, Acushnet and Fairhaven have all joined the troop, so she drove around far beyond Marion to deliver the supplies.

And by the end of the one hour zoom session, despite some frustrated tears, each of the brownies had their very own blanket to donate to Chase Farm.
