The Bulldogs host a day at the races
When the Bulldogs want to raise money for extra-curricular activities at Old Rochester Regional, they’ll run for it.
Hundreds gathered at the Old Rochester Regional High School track on Saturday, Nov. 26, for the Second Annual Bulldog Dash.
Throughout the morning, pre-school children competed in a 100-yard course, followed by the quarter-mile track for the kindergartners and grades 1-6 contestants.
After, it was time for the adults to take their positions at the start line for a two-mile course, which wound around the Old Rochester Regional High School campus.
Emceeing the event was Michael Rock, of Fun 107 radio, who said, “All of the money raised during the Bulldog Dash will go towards offsetting the costs of extra curricular activities here at ORR.”
According to Anne Preisig, winner of the women’s adult two-mile race, she came for the chance to help out the students, but more importantly she came to win.
“I did it last year for the first time and it’s fun to have a short, fast race,” Preisig said. “The course is safe and you can just go out and run.”
Preisig, of Falmouth, claimed the women’s top spot with a time of 11:39, a one second improvement from her win last year with a time of 11:40.
The winners for each of the children’s races were broken down for each grade level, as well as for boys and girls. The winners included, for kindergarten, John Paul Lagonowitch and Lila Bangs. For first grade, Harrison Hughes and Julia Downey. Second grade, Lucas Morrell and Emily Murphy. Third grade, Ben Gowell and Julia Rood. For fourth grade, Brendan Stack and Jackie Barrett. Fifth grade Noah Martinez and Abby Horen. For sixth grade, Noah Schipper and Caroline Murphy.
In the adult races Preisig, and 18-year-old Dana Dourdeville of Marion claimed the first place medals.
Dourdeville broke last year’s high record of 10:39 with a best of 9:58 for the day.
After the races, raffle prize-winners were announced, with gifts that included everything from a free pizza to an MP3 player.
