Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride returns Oct. 2
The Buzzards Bay Coalition is hosting its 10th annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride on Oct. 2.
The Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride is a bike ride that sees more than 150 cyclists ride through the Buzzards Bay region to protect clean water.
The ride usually has two distances, 75 miles and 35 miles, but this year the Coalition is adding two more to celebrate its tenth anniversary. There will be a 100-mile route that runs around the entirety of Buzzards Bay, starting at Sakonnet Point, Rhode Island. There will also be a 10-mile family route on the Shining Sea Bikeway in Falmouth. The 35-mile route starts in Rochester, and the 75-mile route starts in Westport. All routes end with a party in Woods Hole.
The routes will take riders through coastal villages, farmlands, working waterfronts and cranberry bogs. All routes will have a lunch stop, water and snack stations and repair technicians available for safety.
Any cyclist age 12 and older can sign up. Riders can also form teams with friends and families to raise more money. Each rider must raise a minimum of $300 to participate, and the money goes directly to programs and projects that protect land and clean water around Buzzards Bay.
Prizes go to the riders and teams that earn the most money, as well as the winners of new categories such as best team outfit and most riders.
