For the second year in a row, Camp Massasoit campers were treated to a mini music festival as bands in the “Camplified” tour took the stage on Thursday.

More than 500 campers attended the concert, held at the YMCA South Coast’s Mattapoisett location.

“We’re trying to bring in new experiences, new energy and new programs for our campers,” said Executive Director Joe Marciszyn. “The camp has been here for 52 years and it’s important to us that we keep the kids engaged. This is an extra fun day for campers.”

Marciszyn added that campers from the YMCA South Coast’s New Bedford and Fairhaven facilities were also present for the concert.

Now in its 13th year, the Camplified summer concert tour kicked off on July 6 and will make stops at 30-plus summer camps along the East Coast. The stops begin with music related activites. In the morning, Massasoit campers created band names and made homemade instruments while roadies set up the small stage for the afternoon concert.

Singer-songwriter Todd Carey was onstage around 1:30 p.m. He led the crowd in a clap-along and sang original songs and hits such as Pharrell Williams' “Happy.”

After the show there were meet and greet events between campers and performers.

Camp Massasoit has offered a day camp program on Mattapoisett Harbor since 1962. Archery, swimming, boating, a challenge course, dramatic arts and other activities are offered.
