Canton or Marion? Selectmen learn of tax bill misprint
When it comes to paying taxes, people search for all kinds of loopholes. A mistake that placed the town of Canton’s official seal on Marion tax bills won’t be one of them, though.
On Tuesday, Town Administrator Paul Dawson informed Selectmen that residents received bills that erroneously featured the seal of the landlocked town where the population is triple the size of Marion.
“We haven’t gotten a real satisfactory answer as to how that happened,” Dawson said.
He noted that drafts received from the company responsible for printing the bills were checked and correctly featured Marion’s town seal.
Dawson said he’s unsure where the mistake occurred, but emphasized that all of the billing information is correct.
“Town staff has spent a considerable amount of time reviewing that information. The bill is fine, pay on time. We’re dealing with the printer to get that rectified,” Dawson said.
“I wonder who got the town of Marion’s seal,” Select Chair Jon Henry quipped.
